COMPULSORY ROTATING INTERNSHIP

This is to be undertaken only after passing the third phase of qualifying examination and will form one year of compulsory rotating training.

General Objectives

An Internee should be able to

  • clerk newly admitted patients, examine and provide treatment under the supevision of a resident medical officer, unit incharge and/or a faculty. They should follow up the patient until discharged from the hospital.
  • complete case notes of at least 5 cases in 15 days placement; 10 cases in one month placement; 15 cases in one and half months placement and 20 cases for more than one and half month placement; or, as specified by the individual department.
  • assist and perform procedures as listed by the departments.
  • maintain log book of the procedures performed/observed in various departments

Note:

  • Departments should develop internship guidelines for proper monitoring of the acquisition of the required competencies.
  • The record of the case notes and log books have to be examined and countersigned by the Unit In charge at completion.
  • Remain on night duty at least twice a week at each placement along with the Medical Officer on duty.
  • The performance of the Internee will be evaluated by the Unit In charge. It will be based on regular attendance, books, performance in the unit. If the Unit In charge is not satisfied with the performance of the Internee then in consultation with the Head of Department, the candidate will have to repeat the Internship at the end of the rotation plan.
  • They should acquire certain skills in skills laboratory during their posting.
  • With prior permission an internee can take a maximum of two weeks leave either intermittently or in lump form during one year internship. However, the Interne is not allowed to take a two week block leave during 15 days or one month duration of internship placement.
  • The MBBS Co-coordinator will be responsible for monitoring the activity.
