Emergency medicine and family practice Paper XVII

Course Description

During the period of junior internship, they will be posted for two weeks in emergency department. They will observe and participate actively in the management of emergency patients.

Specific Objectives

Students will be able to

• describe the principle of triage and be able to sort emergency patients.
• record appropriate history from patients and perform quick clinical examination.
• interpret the findings of the patient and order appropriate investigation.
• assist in urgent management of emergency diseases
• assist in emergency procedures like CVP insertion, Chest drainage tube insertion, oropharangyeal intubation
• list the steps in managing patients in disaster situation
• identify medico-legal cases
