Review of agents causing RTI ( Upper and lower)

  • Sample collection from different parts of the system
  • Mycobacterium tuberculosis
  • Streptococcus pneumoniae
  • S. pyogenes
  • H. influenzae

CARDIOVASCULAR

  • Overview of cardiovascular pathogens
  • Sample collection and demonstration of common pathogens.
  • Preparation of smear Thin/Thick & Demonstration
  • Parasites:
  • Malaria
  • Filaria
  • Kalaazar
  • Bacteria: Blood culture special emphasis on bacteremia/septicemia (typhoid/bacterial endocarditis)

GIT:

  • Review pathogens
  • Sample collection & culture
  • Parasites: Stool examination routine (ova/cyst)
  • Stool culture for enteric pathogens

RENAL

  • Urine collection
  • Routine examination/culture
  • Colony count, interpretation and antimicrobial sensitivity testing

REPROUCTIVE, ENDOCRINE AND METABOLIC SYSTEMS.

  • Organism causing STI/STD
  • Review pathogens
  • Sample collection
  • Demonstration of N. gonorrheae
  • Demonstration of Trichomonas
  • Ag and Ab reaction, ELISA

PBL: Students will be given clinical problems and biological samples will be provided. Students are required to process the sample, identify the organism and perform antibiotic sensitivity test. At the end of the session group discussion will be conducted.
